I arrived to DC late on the 20th.  Exhausted and in pain, I fell into bed at my cousin Nancy's home.  When I woke up the next morning I think it finally dawned on me, "I'm in DC!"

On Thursday:
I met Jill for lunch at Dos Gringos.  A favorite lunch and breakfast spot of mine in the Mt Pleasant area.  Next, we went to N Street Village, a homeless shelter and drop-in center for women.  Finally, to meet Faith for Chipotle and White cake (our favorite food to share together):

Faith and Hilary:

On Friday, there was a mixture of rain and snow.  Jill and I headed to our favorite clothing store: H&M and found some great deals.  We then headed to Dupont circle and I met Nancy for lunch at Teaism.

Later that night, we found a free wine tasting in Dupont Circle (Jill, Jason, Hilary):

Lauriol Plaza: (wonderful Mexican food and margaritas)

On Saturday, off to see more friends.  Gina and Chris were co-workers of mine at Samaritan Ministry.  I spent two years working there helping homeless individuals find housing, shelter, and job resources.  I met Gina and Chris in Dupont Circle at Kramer Books for breakfast.

After Breakfast, Jason and I headed to a favorite weekend spot of mine, Eastern Market.  Each Saturday and Sunday, they set-up a farmer's market, flea market, and arts and crafts booths of photography, hand knit clothing, and other artistic creations.  We wandered around there for some time and then ate some lunch at Bread and Chocolate.  That night, we went my cousin Nancy and her boyfriend Dan at Thai Tanic:

Sunday was packed with visiting monuments: Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam and Korean Memorials, and the Capitol.  Luckily, it was a beautiful day!

We ate lunch with Faith and her boyfriend at Old Ebbitt Grill, then met Nancy and Dan to ride up to the top of the Old Post Office building.  We finished the day off with a tour of the Portrait Gallery and then half price burgers at Toledo Lounge in Adams Morgan.  Obviously, we ate very well on the trip.  My ankle held up.  I iced it at night and took pain medication during the day.  I ditched the crutches my second day in DC.

Our trip to DC was amazing!  It is still such a magical, wonderful city to me.  Connecting with old friends reminded me of the strong, lifelong friendships I made throughout my two years in DC.  I am already planning my next visit to DC!

Washington DC - Part 1

Most people who know me well know that I love DC!  I lived there for two amazing years of my life and met some wonderful friends there.  I even met my husband three years ago this month on an airplane flying to DC.  There is definitely something special about DC!  I had been planning a trip there for several months to visit the city again and see the people there who I love.

Less than 24 hours before I was supposed to board a plan to the magical city, I was walking down the stairs of our fifth wheel carrying a plate of food and pop; Jason and I were going to eat lunch outside.  As I was walking down the stairs, in clogs, my left ankle rolled completely over to the left side.  Instant, horrendous pain.  Hot sweats.  A feeling like I was going to faint.  Swelling.  I can't have a broken ankle, I am supposed to go to DC.  Jason and I went to urgent care where they x-rayed it and determined it was not broken, but a bad sprain.  The doctor wrapped it in an ace bandage, but an air cast on me, and fitted me for crutches.  In my mind, I was still going to DC.  In Jason's mind, he was trying to figure out how to cancel our hotel reservation.  That night I took pain meds and elevated my foot.  The next day I decided I still could in fact leave.  A wheel chair took me to security, an electric cart was waiting for me after security to take me to my gate, and a wheel chair was there in DC (I left on Wed the 19th, Jason came on Fri the 22nd).  I made it!

Wow!  It's almost been two months since I last updated.  So, what's been going on with us?  The first weekend of January, Jason, his mom, and myself flew to MN to visit with Haley, Jason's older brother, sister-in-law, and their 2 y.o.  We celebrated Christmas with them, watched movies, and played in the snow.  Jason and I made our first snowman together!  The next weekend, we went to Breckenridge with 12 of our closest friends, from our small group bible study.  Some skied, others read and relaxed, and some of us went sledding.  It was so much fun to be in the mountains with our friends.  We met this group of people about a year ago and we have all really become wonderful friends.  The second weekend in February, Jason went north to MN and I headed south to Phoenix.  We were separated by a few thousand miles and about 90 degrees (-20 with windchill in MN and over 70 degrees in AZ).  Jason spent the weekend with Haley celebrating her birthday (2/4).  They went to the Mall of America, Rainforest Cafe, Underwater World, and they did some birthday shopping.  I went to AZ to visit my friend Melissa (maid of honor in our wedding).  It was awesome that the weather was in the 70s for my visit.  We did lots of shopping, ate some great food, relaxed by the pool, and did lots of talking.  I also got to see my in-laws who live outside of Phoenix, who were able to meet us for lunch.  It's always wonderful to catch-up with them.  And now we are up to this past weekend.  My dad and stepmom were in-town for a visit from upstate NY.  We went to their favorite restaurant for dinner (PF Changs), walked around downtown denver,  saw the movie No Country for Old Men (the most violent movie), and got together with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who live in denver.  Next week, Jason and I go to DC to see my friends and some family who live there.  I have not been there since March 2005 - the month and year Jason and I met.  Hard to believe we have almost known each other three years.

Merry Christmas!

We woke up to a "White Chirstmas" in Denver.  It was wondeful!  I can't remember the last time I woke up on Christmas morning to snow falling.  It has been a busy couple of days.  On Friday, Jason, his mom, and myself drove up to Breckenridge.  It was snowy and during rush hour, so it took us about 3.5 hours.  Once in Breckenridge, we ordered pizza and watched the movie Luther.  I fell asleep half way through the movie, even though it is one of my favorite movies.  On Saturday, my mom and Whitney came up to Breckenridge.  Whitney boarded all weekend and the rest of us walked into town, took naps, ate, played games, and watched movies.  A very relaxing weekend.  I used to ski in all kinds of weather, but I have become much more of a wimp when it comes to cold weather.  It was VERY cold this weekend in the mountains and I opted not to ski.  Jason and I are going back to the mountains next weekend and I think I will go skiing.  We have never skied together and have been together over 2.5 years.  On Monday, we ventured back down to denver.  We started cooking the Christmas Eve meal.  While the turkey was cooking, we went to a candlelight Christmas Eve service at the church where we were married.  We sat in the balcony and when all the candles were lit during Silent Night, we could look down on all the candles.  So beautiful!  We ate a scrumptiou meal after church and each opened one gift.  Jason's tradition is to open all the gifts on Christmas eve, but he has been ok changing his tradition to open the majority of the presents on Christmas day.  Christmas day was filled with presents, food, and shoveling snow!

I am now back in Greeley, CO, at work!!  It's not too bad.  We have a good group of clients.

I hope you all had a good Christmas!

Jason, Haley, and I are watching the movie Gremlins as I write this.  A great end to a good weekend.  Has anyone seen this movie?  It is hilarious and the gremlins are so cute...until they are fed after midnight!!!

Jason and I woke up on Thanksgiving morning to Haley singing.  She forgot the small quarters of the fifth wheel and that we can hear everything everyone does or says.  Oh well!  We just got to start Thanksgiving Day a little earlier than expected.  We turned on the Macy's Day Parade and started cooking.  Because of our small oven, we only had to make the sweet potato casserole.  Haley helped me the cooking, while Jason dealt with the fact that our water had frozen the night before.  At about 10:30am we headed over to my mother-in-laws to celebrate Thanksgiving.  My mom and brother, Whitney, also came to eat Thanksgiving dinner with us.  We ate some amazing food, took some pictures, and Jason planned his shopping strategy for Black Friday.

On Friday, Haley went to see "Enchanted" with her grandmother and Jason hit Circuit City and Best Buy for some hot deals.  He ended up getting us a really nice camera for muh cheaper than it would have been had it not been Black Friday.  We are excited to try it out in Mexico.  On Saturday, the three of us saw the movie "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," did a little more shopping, and ate Chinese food.  Today, we went four-wheeling on our property, had a bonfire at night, and went to church this morning.  A fun-filled weekend!
